Hi! I’m Miranda and I’m 22 years old from the United States. I graduated from East Carolina University this past May with a major in Fashion Merchandising. I am moving to Thailand and teaching after college because I want to experience a new culture and travel while I am young and haven’t started a career in the States yet! I am expecting to feel a lot of culture shock and homesickness at times, especially during the first few months, but luckily there are so many amazing people in my program that I hope to connect with! I am so excited to meet new friends and experience a way of life that is very different from my own.
Hello,
My name is Sarah Cottreau and I am from Nova Scotia, Canada. My family is French Canadian, and I am 22 years old with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. I love to travel because it allows me to see the world though a new perspective and appreciate how unique life is. I love to learn new things about the world and myself, so I think this is a great opportunity for me to do so.
Thailand is a beautiful country that I am so excited to explore. I have never travelled to Southeast Asia as it is very far from my home country so I am looking forward to diving into a new culture. I have heard amazing things about Thailand and decided to teach here because I have a passion for sharing my knowledge to others. This experience will be rewarding for myself and others and I am looking forward to helping children achieve their academic goals.
Moving across the world is a challenge in itself but I am already so proud of myself for taking on this adventure. I will keep an open mind and remain optimistic through my journey. I have been told that the first few weeks may be the hardest due to adjusting to a new lifestyle. I must remain confident, embrace the community, and not to be afraid to ask for help or advice.
I hope to gain a sense of fulfilment from teaching others and for my own personal growth. I believe travelling connects people in unique ways and gives us the opportunity to grow.
Hi everyone,
My name is Brooke Reed, I am 25 years old and I am from Southern California in the United States. I graduated college in 2021 from California State University, Fullerton where I received a Bachelor’s in English. In 2022, I received my Secondary Education Teaching Credential in English as well as an authorization to teach English Learners. I have experience working as a substitute teacher and working with students of other languages. This past year I worked as a high school English teacher which was absolutely amazing! I have always been passionate about reading and writing. Reading provided me with an escape and writing provided me with a voice when I felt like I didn’t have one. I want to inspire others to see English this way. I decided to teach in Thailand (1) because I have always been fascinated with the culture, (2) because I want to share the gift of bilingualism with others, and (3) I have always dreamed of traveling the world while doing something that I love! I think the biggest challenge for me is going to be the language barrier. I think I can overcome this by practicing Thai phrases everyday and really immersing myself in the culture. I am so excited (but also nervous) to embark on this adventure. I hope to make lots of friends, eat lots of food, experience Thai culture, and learn more about how to support students of other languages!
Hello everyone,
My name is Jameil. I was born in Canada, moved to England when I was still 1, and then moved to the US where I’ve spent the majority of my life.
I am deciding to travel to Thailand because I appreciate the principles/practices of the culture and am excited to experience and learn from it, part of this will be visiting some of the amazing buildings/temples in the country. I also love nature and am looking forward to doing some travel within the country to enjoy the jungle, meeting/learning about some animals, etc.
I do expect to face some challenges such as learning to navigate the language barrier and customs of the country, dealing with loneliness in a new environment, and learning to be an effective teacher. I expect to overcome these challenges by indulging in the culture and being friendly/respectful to locals, indulging in the culture and getting out and about to at least be around people and hopefully make some friends/acquaintances, and by doing my best to learn from everyone and everything around me.
Out of this experience, I hope to gain new perspectives, new habits, new skills, and especially add to the knowledge I have that creates my view/perspective of the world; to become an even more well-rounded person.
Hello! My name is Allie. I am 22 years old from Canada! I just graduated from Acadia University where I studied Kinesiology! I am an aspiring Physical Education teacher, but am taking a gap year this year to teach in Thailand and I am so excited! I am both a competitive hockey and baseball player and played on the hockey team at my university! I also love to spend time with family and friends and travel!!! I have always been so envious of people who have taken the leap and done something like this such as back pack Europe or teach abroad, so I decided, why not be brave and do it myself! So, here I am! I decided on Thailand because it is a beautiful culture I am not very familiar with, and I have done lots of traveling but have never made it to Asia!
I am certainly going to face some challenges on this journey. I am very close to my family and friends, so I will experience some homesickness. However, I plan to keep busy, and hope to make many new friends along the way to help with this! I also love children and helping them learn so I am hoping that will distract me as well! On the weekends, or when we have time off I plan to travel around Thailand and make the most of my experience abroad! It will also be a challenge at first getting used to a completely new place and culture, so I am sure the first month or so will be a big adjustment, but we are all in it together!
From this experience, I hope to learn more about myself and grow as an individual! I also hope to fall even more in love with teaching children as that is the career I am looking to pursue, and finally, make so many amazing new friends!
I am so excited to meet you all!
Hi, I’m Ahaththiya, I was born in Denmark and moved to the UK and have lived here since I was 6. I have a degree in biomedical science. I have traveled to many European countries and parts of South Asia before and I am excited to explore more of the world.
I have a passion for teaching and want to make a positive impact on a students cognitive, social and emotional development as I believe it will shape them into the person they will become as an adult. The allure of Thai shows and music artists is one of the reasons I’m drawn to Thailand as well as their beautiful landscapes, good food and vibrant culture. I have decided to combine my interest in teaching with my desire to explore Thai culture to move to Thailand.
I expect to face some challenges such as Language barrier and some cultural differences. I will also be way out of my comfort-zone. l hope to overcome these by learning basic Thai phrases to be able to communicate with the locals and immerse myself in Thai culture and be open to new experiences.
I hope to gain a deep understanding of Thai culture and make many life-long memories. This teaching experience will allow me to have a give and take relationship with the students as I will be educating them, but at the same time I will also be learning from them.
Looking forward to meeting you all.
Hello folx!
My name is Rodney and I am from the city Takoma Park in the state of Maryland, USA. I have lived in many different states within the US and pursue experiences that feel personally enriching. I taught English in Japan for one year in 2011 and really enjoyed the experience. I left to attend more university and now feel ready to go again here in Thailand/Vietnam.
I decided on Thailand/Vietnam because I have very little preconception about the culture and people and wanted to give it my best on the ground.
I expect to face challenges such as plateaus in language learning, some isolation (real or imagined), and acclimatizing to the weather. I plan to face these challenges with some gentleness, journalling, and tailoring.
Over all, what I hope to get out of this experience is an expanded sense of community wherein I can see a glimpse the big picture and self-efficacy.
Hi! My name is Camille and I am from England. I studied Criminology for four years at Liverpool John Moores University and whilst I loved my course, I am always had a strong desire to travel. Having travelled around Thailand for a month in 2022, I felt so passionate about returning for a longer period of time to work and integrate myself into a country so different from what I have grown up in. I have always been drawn to challenge and diversity and after working the previous winter in the French Alps at a 5* chalet, I decided a total change in environment and job would be energising. That is why teaching in Thailand is so exciting to me! I think the main challenge I expect to come across is adjusting to the cultural differences, however I welcome this challenge as it is an aspect that I am enthusiastic to immerse myself into. Therefore, I think to overcome such a challenge, I intend to remain open minded, optimistic and enthusiastic. I hope to gain a lot from the experience. I would love to expand my horizons, gain a sense that I have successfully given back and helped others grow as much as help myself grow and develop. I am thoroughly excited about teaching in Thailand and to getting fully immersed in the experience and Thai culture. I wish everyone else on this experience a thoroughly enjoyable and rewarding time.
Hello everyone I’m Molly, from England. Raised in a little village near Leeds. I studied Creative Writing at Liverpool John Moores University and graduated almost 5 years ago, since then I’ve worked admin at a car auction and a van rental site.
I decided this year, after my 26th birthday, that I’d had enough of the automotive world and it was time for a big shake up in my life. Rather than look for another boring job in England that I would ultimately dislike, I started looking into teaching abroad, a dream of mine since finishing university. When I found the opportunities TravelBud offered in Thailand I knew it was a perfect match. The English language was my favourite thing to learn at school, this is what prompted the creativity I now hold so dearly. My English teachers were rockstars to me, they influenced the way I learnt and guided me down a path I’ll be forever grateful for. It is my aim to have this same effect on the Thai children, to share my passion for English and inspire them to adore the complex language like I do.
I enjoy teaching, helping others to gain new skills and understanding however, I am the fussiest eater I know and I can imagine this will be my biggest challenge. You never know if you don’t try – an attitude I am going to adapt once in Thailand, I plan on trying everything and anything at least once, and securely taking myself out of my comfort zone.
The reason I’m coming to teach in Thailand and what I hope to gain the most from this experience is the culture, to learn a new way of life. To expand my horizons further than what’s familiar and to truly immerse myself in the beauty of Thailand. If I can inspire and influence the Thai children then I will have achieved what I set out to do.
Hi, my name is Jean-Philippe, I’m 45 y.o, I’m french and I come from Switzerland where I’ve been living for almost 10years.
As a kid, I grew up in several countries in Africa where I was lucky enough to meet several cultures. At 16y.o I experienced for the first time the life in Europe in Bordeaux (France, south west coast of France).
There I learned how to cope with the winter, to surf and I enjoyed the ocean nearby way of life. There, I also studied visual communication at a graphic design art school. 4 years later I got my bachelor and I started a carreer in advertising in Paris as an art director. At time, I was passionate about strategy, creativity and advertising.
After years, as I became reluctant to Paris, I decided to move to London where I lived almost 2 years and I really enjoyed the city thank to his hectic and creative atmosphere.
By hasard I discovered Switzerland and his peaceful atmosphere and beautiful scenery all around lake and mountains and decided to have a new experience there. It was 9 years ago !
I decided to move to Thailand because my fiancee had an opportunity to start a job there and I took it as a fantastic opportunity for me to live once as a teacher in this fantastic country.
The main challenge for me will remain certainly in avoiding misunderstandings between me and thai people due to the huge cultural gap between us.
But I’m so much curious about other that I’ll remain confident enough in my capacity to adapt.
I hope after this experience I’ll be better at speaking thai langage and more aware of the thai cultural particularities and intricacies.
My name is Brett. I am from Boise, Idaho in the western United States. I just graduated from the University of Utah with a bachelors of science in elementary education. I decided to come to Thailand because I have always had an adventurous spirit. I love traveling and experiencing new things. After graduating from school, I was not ready to settle down into a full time teaching job in the states. I was searching for some worldly travel and foreign living. I chose Thailand because I have been to Cambodia before, which gave me a taste of the Asian culture and I fell in love. I love Thai food, I have been told that Thailand is beautiful, the people are kind and the country is safe. I am ready to immerse myself in a new culture and learn about the world.
What challenges do you expect to face along the way and how do you expect to overcome them?
I expect to be challenged by the language. I have basically no experience with learning new languages so I can imagine this will be difficult. I hope to adapt to the cultural norms in decent time but I expect this will be a transition. I also tend to struggle with spicy foods, so that might pose a challenge as well.
I hope to gain knowledge of new cultures and histories. I hope to meet lots of wonderful people. I expect to learn more from my students than they learn from me. And I am very excited to see new beautiful places.
Hello!
My name is Chelsea, and I am from Denver Colorado. I graduated from the University of Colorado with a degree in psychology. Since graduating I have worked in the medical field, as well as held several volunteer positions including being a wish granter at Make-A-Wish Colorado, an organization that grants wishes to children with life threatening illnesses.
I am planning to move to Thailand because I’ve always been curious about teaching, especially since my dad is a teacher. I see it as an opportunity to explore a new career path. Additionally, living in a different culture has always fascinated me. I know there will be challenges, from adapting to a new way of life and overcoming language barriers, but I believe it will be a great experience to step out of my comfort zone. I hope to gain a deeper understanding of Thai culture, connect with students, and learn valuable life skills. This journey is not just about teaching; it’s about personal growth and embracing the unknown.

Hi 👋
My name is mia, I’m from Manchester in the UK. I have lived there all my life but in June 2023 I decided to quit my job and travel. I have been travelling since but I am in need of work. I didn’t want to take on any office job, but also wanted to build my career. That’s when I came across teaching. I have had a little taster of teaching through teach first and I thought it would be amazing for me to teach abroad. I wanted to travel to Thailand, now I can teach and build a new career there too.
Hi,
My name is Azaria, I completed my degree in biochemistry at the university if York a few years ago, however I knew that I didn’t want a desk job. So since then I have been traveling and teaching outdoor sports (mostly watersports and skiing). I have always been fascinated by languages, and so I decided that now would be the perfect time to develop my skills as an English teacher, and Thailand seems like an amazing country to do this in.
