Hi, my name is Destiny, I am 28 and from London England. I just finished my TEFL course in Chiang Mai and have been in Thailand for 5 weeks.
I studied business management and was working for Nokia before I moved here. the reason I moved to Thailand is that i would like to try something new aside my usual 9-5 and moving to thailanf has opened up that part way for me. and being here the past couple of weeks have proved i made the right decision i love thailand and its people super smiley, friendly and always happy to help.
I know they will be loads of challenges like language barriers, difference in culture and adapting to the climate , but i believe adapting relies on ones willingness to learn. hence i have been practising how to use basic phrases to speak to the local people close to me and i have learnt a lot and will kwwp learning to adapt to thailand.
i hope this teaching experience will help build my confidence at the end and help me grow as an individual.

Hi, I’m Sky, I’m 22 years old and I’ve just graduated from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville with a degree in Deaf Education. I was born and raised in the State of Maryland. Teaching English abroad has been a dream of mine for a long time, and I’m thrilled to finally take this step!
My background in Deaf education has made me passionate about teaching, especially with children, and I see this opportunity as a great way to gain teaching experience while exploring a new country. I believe that working there will give me valuable insights into different perspectives that will not only help me in my future teaching career but also allow me to grow as a person.
I do expect some challenges along the way. For one, the language barrier. I will do my best to immerse myself in the language by hopefully connecting with locals who can help me practice. Another challenge will definitely be staying in touch with my family back home, especially with the time zone difference. I plan to carve out time to talk with my friends and family to stay connected! I hope to meet a lot of awesome people with similar interests!
Hi everyone,
My name is Claudia and I am from Annapolis, MD in the United States. I just recently graduated from Salisbury University with a Bachelors in Social Work. I decided to take this opportunity to live and teach in Thailand because I would like to immerse myself into a new experience. I have heard wonderful things about teaching english abroad, especially in Thailand and I am grateful to have the privilege of learning about and experiencing Thailand’s rich culture. While studying social work it became inherently clear that one of the biggest responsibilities of a social worker is to learn about the intersectionality of any person, group, or community that I would be working with. I am excited to take what I have learned through social work and use those tools to learn about Thai culture and working in Thailand. While I am extremely excited to be moving to Thailand to teach, I expect that I will face challenges especially during the adjustment period in the beginning. Being far away from home can be hard, but I know that I will be able to adjust by creating a daily routine and scheduling out times to talk to my family and friends. I hope to gain knowledge into the career of teaching while also being able to travel and experience new places.
Hello!
My name is Émilie Lalancette and I am 24 years old. I was born and raised near Ottawa Canada. I have always been passionate about sports and teaching which is why I decided to get a double major in education and physical education with a minor in biology.
I have been fortunate enough to travel to many places but Thailand has always been on my bucket list. Being a recent graduate with my masters in school administration, I thought it would be the perfect time to teach abroad before I find a permanent contract. I cannot wait to learn about the Thai culture and meet the students! I hope to help and guide the students all while learning from them at the same time.
See you guys soon!
Hello everyone,
My name is Mamello and I am a 30 year old qualified teacher from South Africa. I have a bachelor’s degree and a bachelor of Honours degree in education. Recently, I have also added a TEFL certificate which allows me to teach English as a foreign language. I have taught learners from different backgrounds with different learning abilities and it has been an absolute pleasure to be part of their learning experience. I have also worked in various departments at the university level. I have decided to move to Thailand to teach English to expand my knowledge and experience, and to reach my full potential as an educator. I have never left South Africa before, so definitely culture shock and language barrier are amongst the top challenges I’m likely to face when I get to Thailand. However, I am extremely excited about this new adventure and will definitely adapt to the new environment. I am really just hoping to get the best out of this experience!
Hello,
My name is Corey, On Facebook I go by Corey Dean, and on YouTube, I run the channel Adventure4Life. I am originally from Minnesota, USA, and was in the Air Force, while serving I lived in North Dakota, and Georgia, USA. The last 18 years, I have lived in Florida, USA. I have worked for a couple different Universities, now known as Purdue Global, and Keiser University in Florida, I have my Bachelors degree in Business and a Masters degree in Management and leadership. While in Georgia in the Air Force I was a recruiter and many teachers had me take over their classes for the day. I love helping and teaching others, I am good at both math and English. I love learning even more.
Why are you deciding to travel/move to Thailand?
As you will see on my YouTube channel I have many videos of me riding front row of different roller coasters, I love adventure and challenges. It has always been my dream to travel the world, it has always been my dream to teach. Achieving the TEFL gives me the opportunity to do both. While working at a summer job here in Florida I had the opportunity to meet and make friends with Visitors from Thailand who were here on a work program working at the resort, this and further research into the area and culture are what made me realize Thailand was an excellent place to start my Journey.
What challenges do you expect to face along the way and how do you expect to overcome them?
My biggest challenges so far has been loose ends here in the states, I am giving away or selling most everything I have, personal items, cars, etc. and working on setting myself up to become a World traveler. I do not know what specific challenges to expect along the way, but I hope to capture them on video when I do… 🙂
What do you hope to get out of your experience?
I hope to get the next chapter, life is all about moments and experiences. Living and enjoying each moment. My biggest interest has always been to expand my horizon and my mind. I hope to achieve knowledge and enlightenment.
Hi! My name is Romesh, and I am from the UK. I recently graduated from university with a degree in Economics, but before diving into a full-time corporate career, I decided to take some time to travel and gain some real-world experiences. This decision was partly inspired by my brother, who did something similar after university and had such an amazing experience.
I have chosen to move to Thailand because I believe it’s an excellent opportunity to immerse myself in a new culture, contribute to the local community, and gain invaluable life skills. Teaching is a new endeavour for me in a professional setting, but I’ve always enjoyed working with students, such as through tutoring or coaching, and I’ve found it to be incredibly rewarding. While I expect there may be challenges, such as adapting to the different education system and cultural environment, I’m confident that I will settle in just fine.
One of the most exciting parts of this journey is the chance to make a real difference in students’ lives and I hope to contribute positively to the community by helping students in Thailand develop their knowledge and skills. I believe this experience will give me the chance to create meaningful, lasting memories, while exploring a new part of the world.

My name is Laura and I’m 23. I have been a substitute teacher for my local school district for the past year or so, and recently decided I want to try teaching in another country. I wasn’t sure which country I wanted to go to at first, but Thailand caught my eye and it looked like a cool place to go live for a while.
I definitely expect to struggle with learning Thai language, I have tried to learn a few phrases but haven’t really committed to learning more yet. Once I get there I’ll be surrounded by it, which will hopefully force me to retain more. Another challenge I will face is teaching English, because I haven’t ever been the main teacher for a class (just a sub), so I know it will be different. I’m excited for that though.
I hope to grow as a person and get more out of my comfort zone. I’m usually pretty introverted, so meeting new people can be a lot for me, but I want to make friends and have a nice community while I’m living in Thailand. I also want to build relationships with my students and be someone they can look up to and trust.
Hi, my name is Aisling, I am 24 from Galway in Ireland. I have been a nurse for the last two years in my hometown but have always had a huge travel bug. After seeing a lot of Europe and a few places in America, South East Asia only made sense to me to choose as my next location. Although completely different circumstances, there is a huge teaching element through nursing both with patients and new staff alike. It has always been a goal of mine to work with children, and if I can gain experience in this while also getting to learn about new language, culture and even new things about myself than this seemed like the perfect opportunity to me!
I have never actually stood up infront of any size group of people in a teaching circumstance and linking this with an initial shyness when becoming exposed to new surroundings and people, I am nervous for this opportunity, however I also am excited for this new experience.
Being surrounded by those who speak an entirely different language to me and live a completely different lifestyle will initially pose a challenge but I am usually an easily adaptable person and I look forward to immersing myself into a completely new way of life, meeting new friends and hopefully being able to teach my students a thing or two more than what is just on the curriculum. I look forward to being a teacher to those around me but also being the student to these same children who I am sure will never cease to teach me a thing or two as the days and weeks go on.
Hi, my name is Adam. I’m 26 years old and am originally from Los Angeles, CA. I completed a master’s degree in human-computer interaction from UCL and have been living in London for three out of the past four years. I had been working in the corporate world at various tech companies, but I realized last year that I’m not quite sure I enjoyed that career path. As a result, I decided to move back home at the beginning of 2024 and have a complete career reset. For the past few months, I have been working full-time as a tutor with students of all ages, and I’ve realized I quite enjoy teaching/mentoring and would like to see where that leads me. Traveling has always been my biggest passion – I’ve lived long-term in four different countries (UK, Denmark, Spain, USA) and have travelled extensively across Europe. I’ve never been to Asia before, but I have had many friends travel around Southeast Asia in the last few years. Thailand has always intrigued me as a country with diverse geography, food, culture, etc. It is also the only country in Southeast Asia untouched by European colonization. I am excited to learn about a culture so different from the ones I’ve already become familiar with.
As someone who has lived abroad a few times, I am well aware of the challenges I expect to face as a newcomer. Daily practicalities – buying food at the supermarket, getting around, communicating with other people – become new sources of confusion and excitement. Navigating a new work culture and understanding the social and cultural norms can at first be challenging and lead to lots of unintended misunderstandings. The language barrier may an issue in not only making yourself understood at a basic level, but forming meaningful connections with local people. I’d like to learn as much of the language as possible in order to facilitate my integration into the culture, as I feel it will make more experience more meaningful. I’d like to avoid being part of the “Expat bubble” as much as possible and actually feel part of the society I’m living in. I think being a teacher is a great way to do this, and I am super excited to work at a school!
Hello. My name is Ceejay Rees and I currently live in the North East of England, United Kingdom.
I am 27 years old, and I have worked, completed programs, gained experience and knowledge both across the United Kingdom and overseas in places such as Belgium, Greece and India.
From the age of 16 I have been employed in various skilled professions and I have worked within both civil law and property law for the past 6 years.
In 2018, I graduated Leeds Beckett University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. I have a true passion for the subject and find it fascinating how the discipline can be applied to all aspects of an individual’s life, including education.
I have always desired to become a teacher to advocate and communicate my enthusiasm for education. I actively believe that the practice of learning has great influence on the mind and character of people, and I consider being part of that development to be remarkably self-fulfilling and personally rewarding.
I decided to move to Thailand as I wanted to take the first steps to pursue my longing to become a teacher, whilst also having the opportunity to expand my knowledge on Thai culture.
I find the Thai architecture fascinating, and I would love to learn more about Buddhism during my time in Thailand since recently practising meditation.
Whilst I have worked and completed programs abroad previously, I expect to find leaving my friends and family behind my biggest challenge, as this will be the longest duration I have worked overseas so far.
I have often been reminded that friends and family are like stars. Although you might not always see them, they are always there, and I expect to overcome this challenge by reminding myself of the amazing opportunity that lies ahead of me to meet new stars that I can add to my life.
During my time spent in Thailand, I hope to achieve my Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages certification, new friendships, life changing moments, personal growth, inner healing, further knowledge of Thai culture, and I hope to achieve experience in my dream career.
Best wishes,
Ceejay Rees.
Hello!
I am Jayla. I am looking forward to getting to know all of you. I decided Thailand because I like that it has many different aspects… the history (ruins, historical figures, statues, religious history), I dork out about learning about history! Totally looking forward to that. I love the scenery there. I think it has a ton to offer…. the hiking, beaches. Especially when you are very athletic and like to be on the go.
Recently was out of the country for about a month. The biggest struggle for me was missing family! I think this unique experience I am looking forward to being with others. That will help me not feel so far away. They will stay in touch too. I also think staying busy will be awesome and being somewhere new!!!
Honestly, this is a dream. I have always wanted to physically be in another country and teach. I would like to be part of something bigger than myself as well. I hope I find great purpose doing this!
Hello!
My name is Isabella Johnson, and I am from a suburb of Chicago, Illinois. I graduated in May with a BA in Psychology from the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. My interests include rock climbing, hiking, traveling, photography, and reading. I am traveling to Thailand to teach English because of how much I love to travel. Before starting my career in Psychology, I knew I wanted to explore the world, and teaching English seemed like an amazing opportunity to fulfill my dream. I chose Thailand because I had heard amazing things from so many people who had traveled there. I have never traveled to Asia before, and I wanted to go somewhere that had a very different culture than that I am used to, in the USA. Additionally, the nature of Thailand is calling me, the rock climbing, hiking, and beautiful landscapes.
I expect to have a certain level of culture shock, since I have never experienced any Eastern culture before. I aim to overcome this by adjusting my expectations for the experience. I know this experience will have amazing highs, but also some lows, so I have accepted that I will feel the entire range of emotions while over there. I assume the language barrier will be difficult to manage too, which is why I am trying very hard to learn some of the language, so as to minimize the isolation I will feel.
From this experience, I hope to gain cultural insight into Thailand and its people. I want to be challenged, and learn how to overcome those challenges. I want to grow as a person through the learning of a multitude of new perspectives. I want to impact Thai children’s lives by teaching them English.
I am excited to take this course, as I expect it will prepare me more for this experience in Thailand!
Good luck everyone!
Isabella Johnson
