Hi! My name’s Erin, I’m 20 and from Melbourne, Australia. I don’t have a degree yet but began my teaching degree in 2023 which I thoroughly enjoyed at the time! For a long time I have wanted to teach but have not quite been certain as to whether it was a career I wanted to pursue or not. By experiencing teaching in another country will give me a huge insight into whether it is something I want to pursue. I have also been to Thailand before and loved it and have done a little bit of travel last year which I thoroughly enjoyed.
I think the main barriers for me will be adjusting to the weather and culture given Melbourne is so varying in weather and so culturally diverse. However, I hope to move past these challenges by being open to all sorts of new experiences.
I hope to gain a whole new range of skills from this experience as well as meet like minded people in terms of both travel and teaching!

Hi! My name is Georgie. I am 25 years old from the United States- Texas to be more specific. I decided to take part in the program to help myself get better acclimated to Thailand and hopefully meet some cool people. I decided to move to Thailand because I won’t be this young forever and you only live once. I had visited for a month at the beginning of 2024 and felt I could grow a lot if I had more time there. I am hoping to become more patient, confident, and calm during my time there. I am also hoping to meet likeminded individuals and develop a strong sense of community along the way.

    Hello
My name is Michaella, I was in born in Jamaica and raised in Toronto and America. I have always been interested in East and south East Asia and wanted to learn more about the cultures. I also decided to take part in the program because I wanted to have the experience of teaching English abroad, and thought it would be a great way to meet new people from around the world as well and being apart of a beautiful culture. I have lived and visited many countries before including Thailand. Though I will be teaching in Cambodia, I’m really looking forward to spending the month in Thailand again during the course.

    Hello
My name is Myrtle, I’m 52 years of age. I was born in Soweto – Johannesburg (South Africa). I was raised by my grandmother until the age of 11yrs. What a beautiful soul she was. She had so much confidence in me and my number one cheerleader in achievinf my dreams and aspirations.

I have a postgraduate degree in Public Management from the University of Pretoria. I’ve worked for the government of South Africa for 16 years and retired in the real estate industry as a Property Practitioner.

I’ve always loved traveling within South Africa but never had an opportunity to travel overseas. When I was exploring the countries I could find work and travel, Thailand seemed very welcoming

I used to say take me anywhere in the world and I’ll be able to adjust. This was because of my background learning at boarding school when I was in high school.

The main challenge I guess would be on the language in the beginning, but I’m excited in learning the Thai language as I also teach English. It would be a fun experience for both teacker and learner as we both learn from each other.

Hey Myrtle. It’s so wonderful hearing about what led you to join this journey. I’m Miche and I’ve been wanting to meet up with any of my fellow XploreAsia classmates who are based in Gauteng. I’m currently in Pretoria and wanted to know if you’d be interested in meeting up before we get to Thailand just to get to know each other? Let me know if you’re keen please, I’d also like to contact some of the other South Africans enrolled so we can have coffee or something! 🙂

    Hi everyone,
My name is Lachlan, I am 21 years old, and I am from Melbourne Australia. I have just finished up my work at amazon which I have been working there for 3 and a half years. I am a very ambitious and adventurous person who loves to travel and try new things, so I am very excited to start my new journey over in Thailand as an English teacher. I am deciding to move to Thailand because I recently visited in November last year and fell in love with the country. The culture, food and friendliness of the locals won my heart. Oh yeah and of course the beautiful weather. I expect a few challenges during this transition like the culture change and language barriers, but I know I can overcome these easily with the right support around me and trusting myself to learn and apply myself in any way possible. I hope to learn more about myself and more about the world, also to put myself out there and meet new people and experience a different way of life.
    Best of luck everyone!
    Lachlan

My name is Ros and I live in Australia. I have worked in the justice system for the past 15 years with both adult and juvenile offenders. My tertiary qualifications are in Psychology.

In 2015 as a student nurse my daughter completed a month-long university placement in Phitsanulok, Central Thailand. Afterwhich she returned to Thailand multiple times. I was fascinated with the recounts of her experiences, the culture and the people. In 2020, my first trip to Thailand was planned; however, these plans were short-lived, being dashed away by the global pandemic. I did get to Thailand in 2022 soon after the international borders were re-opened, and I have returned with my daughter each year since. Through our travels I became enamoured with everything Thailand, most significantly the Asian Elephant. I believe in ‘voluntourism’, or giving back when I travel, and by virtue of this when in Thailand I also spend time volunteering at Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai.

Finding myself at a crossroad in my career toward the end of 2024, an opportunity presented for me to join this teaching program. Being a part of the program aligns with my values about education and provides an opportunity for me to contribute meaningfully through work, while also fulfilling my desire to travel and immerse myself in a culture so different to my own. I hope to one day live in Thailand on a permanent basis, and I hope my participation in this program is bringing me one step closer toward achieving this. Beyond my hopes to impart a meaningful and adequate learning experience to a classroom of children, I would like to celebrate Songkran in Bangkok, become adept in Thai language (which is also the largest foreseeable challenge) and get myself to a Muay Thai match (something I have not managed to do in all my trips because they start so late!!).

Hello! My name is Zoe, I’m 21 and I’m from Leicestershire in the UK.
This is my first time having even left the country and it’s been incredible! I decided to move to Thailand to further my education, create a career path, and experience a different way of living. I’ve always been interested in working in within early years/child care, so to be able to do so whilst also experiencing Thailand has been an amazing opportunity.
A challenge I expect to face is doubting my ability, which I’ve already experienced so far! I find sometimes I can develop “imposter syndrome”, but being in Thailand the past few weeks has helped me recognise and tackle these feelings as I go.
I’m hoping to immerse myself in the community whilst in Thailand, whilst building my career and learning!

    Hi,
My name is James, I am 18 years old from Cambridge. I have a diploma in sport and an extended certificate in business from long road college sixth form. After completing my college course I was unsure what was going to be my next step in life. I decided to make the decision to become a teacher in Thailand as I felt I needed a new experience to not only gain a sense of independence but to step outside my comfort zone. I am looking forward to this opportunity to make new relationships and potentially begin a new career. I am very much looking forward to starting a new chapter in my life and give it everything I have!

    Hello everyone!
My name is Eden Jamil, born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. A little bit about me- I am a creative person with a passion for painting and sculpture. At the heart of this passion is a foundational interest in people, culture, story telling, etc.- beauty and togetherness! I know it sounds quite general but it is this never-ending curiosity about the world that has brought me here, to this program.
Education is at the heart of connection, growth, aspiration, and confidence. As an educator I hope to be able to share these values with children of all ages so that they may be more easily able to realize their dreams and have a strengthened sense of self and community. Similarly, I hope to nurture these values within myself.
Teaching can be pursued anywhere but I chose Thailand because I wanted to challenge myself to be away from anything familiar to me- a new language, cuisine, people, climate, and most of all, a newfound self reliance. I have achieved community and comfort in New York and, without taking them for granted, I am yearning to break my mold and conquer discomfort. I have never visited Asia so Thailand itself can offer me an abundance of new experiences and, educating while doing so, can offer me the fulfillment of doing something impactful while exploring a potential career path. I know it will not be easy to acclimate to a new environment and culture but I want to prove to myself that I can do it and come out better for it. I hope to see in myself a more independent, inspired, and worldly person.
I am so excited to meet you all and embark on this exciting new journey!

Hi my name is Nosihle Zama and I live in South Africa. I grew up in a small town called Port Shepstone in KwaZulu Natal. I completed my Bachelor of Education in 2022. I combined my passion for teaching and traveling and decided to go to Thailand.

I have decided to take part in the programme because it is an incredible opportunity to immerse myself in Thai culture as well as learn new skills and get acquainted with what I like to teach English.

I know that working with new people from a completely culture to mine will be a fun and rewarding experience. Iam expecting the first challenge to related to cultural and language barrier but it will be overcomed with a bit of politeness.

Iam hoping to become familiar with Thai culture and expand my knowledge by meeting new people

Hi! My name is Sierra, I am 27 years old and from Canada! I have been living in Whistler and Vancouver the last four years spending a lot of time snowboarding. I graduated in 2020 with a degree in Kinesiology and have always loved travelling and being active. I went to Bali when I was 19 and have been wanting to come to Thailand for a long time. I think that doing a TEFL course while in Thailand is a great way to travel and explore a new place while also being able to meet new people. I think a challenge for me will be adapting to a new way of life and settling new roots. I have done a lot of moving and travelling before so I know that it might take a bit to feel fully comfortable in a new place. I am hoping that I learn more about Thai culture while also being able to provide English skills to locals.

Hello everyone!! My name is Devon, I’m 25, and I’m from Arizona in the United States. In 2023 I graduated with my degree in Music Production and in 2024 I finished a software engineering program. I made the decision to travel to Thailand and teach English because I believe it’s a great opportunity to explore new cultures and simultaneously make a difference while also having fun! The main challenge I expect to face is most likely going to be adjusting to the new environment and finding a social group to stick with. Finally, I hope that teaching in Thailand will broaden my knowledge of the world and provide a good way to experience something new.
