Hello, my name is William and I’m from Ontario, Canada. I’ve spent time volunteering in theatre and working in customer retention, both of which taught me a lot about working with different kinds of people and staying patient in challenging situations. I’ve always loved traveling and have been fortunate enough to explore much of Europe, which sparked my interest in learning about other cultures. Thailand has stood out to me for a long time — I’ve read about the culture, met a few friends from Thailand, and the chance to live there for a while and experience everyday life there feels really meaningful to me. I know there will be challenges, especially with the language barrier and adjusting to a new environment, but I think the best way to overcome that is by staying open-minded, being patient with myself, and learning directly from the people and culture around me. Through this experience, I hope to grow personally, gain a deeper understanding of Thai culture, and do meaningful work while I’m there.
Excited to start the course,
William
Hi Everyone,
I’m Libby, I’m 33 and from the UK. I’ve worked for the past 13/14 years in special education; with children ages 3-18, who have ASD, ADHD and other learning difficulties. I absolutely love my job but felt it was time for a change of scenery. I visited Thailand in 2023 and fell in love with the country. I am really looking forward to the challenge of living and working somewhere new, as well as the opportunity to meet lots of new people from all walks of life. I expect it will be difficult to be away from my family for so long, and there will definitely be a culture shock, but I feel ready to take on the challenge. I’m very excited about this new chapter in my life and look forward to meeting you all.
Hello everyone, my name is Jacob. I am 27 years old and from the United States. I finished my bachelors of science in cybersecurity a couple of years ago at Northern Kentucky University. I have many hobbies I am passionate about but muay thai rose above the rest. I have not been to the continent of Asia yet and Thailand seemed like a wonderful place to start exploring. I’m not sure what awaits me in Thailand, but I don’t think of challenges in a negative connotation. I think of challenges as an opportunity to learn and I am anticipating a lot of learning with this adventure. I am hoping to grow as a person, make new friends, and learn as much as I can. Thank you for reading 🙂
Hello everyone! My name is Liam, I’m 24 years old and from the United States. I earned my high school diploma in Worcester, Massachusetts. I’ve always loved traveling and trying new things. I’ve been to Japan twice and have visited several countries across Europe. I’m really excited to be in Thailand, both to take the TEFL course and to experience a country that’s been on my travel list for a long time. I think my biggest challenge will be dealing with homesickness, but I’m confident it’s something I’ll adjust to with time. My main goal through this experience is to build my confidence and become the best teacher I can be.
My name is Rachael and I am coming to Thailand to complete my TESOL qualification. For the past five years, I have worked as a support worker which has helped me develop patience, empathy and strong communication skills. Alongside my career I have always had a passion for travelling and experiencing new cultures. I decided to return to Thailand because I truly fell in love with the country when I first visited two years ago. The culture, people and atmosphere left a lasting impression and when I left I knew I was going to come back. One challenge i expect to face during this experience is stepping outside of my comfort zone as i can sometimes lack in confidence. I see this as an opportunity for personal growth. I hope to embrace new situations and push myself gaining confidence and making the most out of this journey. I hope this experience will allow me to create meaningful memories while learning more about different cultures and perspectives. I look forward to growing both personally and professionally.
Hi, my name is Craig. I’m 28 and I come from Wigan, England. My most recent job role was as a Progression Coach across Liverpool and Merseyside, where I supported a range of young people in getting into education, employment, and training. Over the past four years, all of my roles have involved working alongside young people, whether that was in mainstream education or supporting those outside of education. Before that, after finishing high school, I was a professional rugby league player.
I decided to travel to Thailand because I have spent a bit of time here previously and loved every moment of it. The people are very happy and welcoming, and the country is full of history and culture, on top of all the beautiful views and locations.
I expect to face some challenges along the way. Even before we started, we had to resolve some travel issues, so I imagine there will be other obstacles too. By communicating and relying on the people around me, I believe I will be able to find the help I need and work through any problems that come up.
I hope to develop myself personally and professionally from this experience. It’s something I’m really looking forward to, and I’m excited for everything that comes with it. I also hope to achieve the qualification that goes alongside it, which will help me visit and experience more places in the future.
My name is Drew Nicholson and I am 26 years old from Canada. I’ve always been interested in traveling and experiencing different cultures. Over the past few years I started thinking more seriously about living or working in another country for a while. I like meeting new people, trying new things, and learning about how people live in different parts of the world. I believe traveling helps people grow and see life from different perspectives.
One of the main reasons I decided to travel to Thailand is because it seems like a really interesting country with a strong culture and a different way of life compared to where I grew up. I’ve heard a lot of good things about the food, the people, and the overall atmosphere there. I’m also interested in teaching and spending time in Southeast Asia, so Thailand seemed like a good place to start. I think it will be a great opportunity to learn about the culture and experience something completely new.
I know there will probably be some challenges along the way. Things like the language barrier, adjusting to a new environment, and being far away from home could be difficult at times. However, I think those challenges are also part of the experience and can help me grow as a person. I plan to stay open minded, learn from the people around me, and try my best to adapt.
Overall, I hope to get a lot out of this experience. I want to learn more about Thai culture, meet new people, and gain a better understanding of life in another country. I also hope it helps me grow personally and gives me experiences that I will remember for the rest of my life.
Hi drew
I Hold a lot of the same values as you and reasoning as to why I’m moving to Thailand
Exited to connect
Hi Rachael,
It looks like we’ve had a very similar career path! I’m also not used to stepping out of my comfort zone but I’m excited for the challenge. Looking forward to meeting you
Hello Everyone! My name is Mary from Boston in the USA. I am 22 years old and graduated from University with of BBA in Finance last spring. I am very passionate about traveling and learning new cultures. I have been lucky enough to study a semester in San Sebastian, Spain and a short term in San Jose, Costa Rica. I love trying new things, being active and learning the history of places. I am excited to teach in Thailand to learn about a new culture and challenge myself in a new field. I love kids but have never formally taught and am excited to learn and improve as my time teaching goes on. I expect to have difficulty with the language and adjusting to a different culture at first. I plan to do my best to learn Thai and immersive myself in the local culture. My main goal is to challenge myself and push myself out of my comfort zone while I am in Thailand. I plan to do so by meeting new people, trying new things like Muay Thai, and learning and improving on my teaching skills.
Hey Atthachai!
It will also be my first time teaching. Hopefully we are able to help one another through this process.
I have been working on increasing my confidence over the past five years, yet still struggle with being 100% confident. This is something we can work on together, if you would like.
I commend you for being a chef. Being a chef has always been one of my dreams, so I will take any notes you are willing to share with me:) I love your quote, “Take one breath, one step, one day at a time.” This is something I will repeat to myself along this new journey.
Hello everyone!
My name is Kelsey Kirkland. I am 33 years old from Nashville, Tennessee in the United States. For the past fourteen years I have worked in hospitality, so this will be a big change for me. I will be completing my TESOL course then will teach for a full calendar year in Thailand. I have always loved children, whether I am watching my friends children or entertaining them at the bar. I enjoy their bluntness, curiosity, and playfulness.
There were a few factors that influenced my decision to move and teach in Thailand. I have been wanting to move for some time now, but was never able to fully commit to one location. Then in June of 2025 I went on a two week hiking trip to Vietnam. As soon as I got home I started researching how to work and live abroad, found this opportunity and could not be more excited for this next chapter in my life! I cherish traveling, especially to those places less traveled. I thoroughly enjoy submerging myself into one’s culture. I am hoping to make friends who enjoy traveling as well.
Through this experience I hope to grow personally as well as professionally. I have high hopes of learning Thai as well as Muay Thai. I also wish to know more about Buddhism. I am excited to meet everyone!
Cheers,
Kelsey Kirkland
Kia Ora! My name’s Tasman, I’m 24 from Wellington, New Zealand. I have a degree in theatre and communications and am very passionate about the arts and love watching live theatre.
I’ve always wanted to spend time in Thailand and explore the culture and landscape, I have some experience teaching part time so thought that would be an incredible way to fully integrate myself into a community in Thailand.
One of the main challenges for me will be navigating a language I am unfamiliar with but I am eager to learn and want to immerse myself in the experience so am sure I will learn fast. I am also worried about being away from friends and family and making new friends, but I want to push myself to keep being around new people and trying lots of new experiences so I can meet new people!
I hope to meet lots of new friends and learn lots about Thailand. I am looking forward to lots of travel and discovering new places and learning and growing myself.
My name is Jay Chandar, and I recently graduated from the University of York with a degree in Mathematics and Philosophy. I am currently in a transitional phase, taking time to explore new experiences and develop both personally and professionally. Alongside my studies, I have a strong interest in sport, particularly football and running, and I enjoy setting goals that challenge me.
I decided to travel to Thailand to step outside my usual environment and experience a different culture. After university, this felt like the right opportunity to push myself while gaining practical skills. Teaching English stood out as a meaningful way to do this, allowing me to contribute while building confidence and communication skills. I am also considering pursuing a PGCE in the future, so gaining early teaching experience feels like a valuable step.
I expect challenges such as adapting to a new culture, navigating language differences, and managing a classroom environment. Being away from home is another factor. To overcome these, I plan to stay open-minded, adaptable, and willing to learn from mistakes. I will also rely on preparation from this course, maintain routines such as exercise and reflection, and seek support when needed.
From this experience, I hope to gain confidence, independence, and teaching skills, as well as a deeper understanding of a different culture. Overall, I see this as an opportunity to grow, challenge myself, and gain clarity on my future direction.
Hi there, I’m Nombuyiselo Pride Makhuela. I’m 34, born in Mpumalanga South Africa, and I hold a Bachelor of Education from UNISA. I’ve spent years in the classroom helping curious minds grow, and I believe teaching is about lighting little fires of curiosity that keep burning long after the bell rings.
Thailand calls me for a fresh start and a big tasty adventure. I want to challenge myself to live in a brand-new world with new rhythms, flavours, and stories. Thailand’s vibrant culture and energy feel like the perfect backdrop to explore how education works across cultures. I’m excited to bring back ideas that my students can feel and learn from. In short: I want to grow, learn, and give back in equal measure.
I’m sure there’ll be a few bumps, but that’s where the fun is. Language barriers will push me to sharpen my communication and stay patient with everyone. I’ll adapt to new foods, routines, and a climate that loves humidity as much as I love a good joke. Speaking of jokes: why did the classroom plant get in trouble in Thailand? Because it kept growing under the “Thai-nder.” I’ll laugh, learn, and grow right alongside my students. I look forward to lean on local communities and inclusive teaching to bridge gaps, and celebrate little wins, such as mastering a Thai phrase or finding a favourite street curry.
What do I hope to get out of this? I want real courage and bravery to try new things and soak up the unfamiliar daily. I’m seeking clearer direction for my future. Whether that’s leadership, international teaching gigs, or weaving global perspectives into my practice. I hope to deepen my empathy, sharpen my adaptability, and bring back insights that enrich my students here. This journey is about bold growth and meaningful impact, curiosity and bravery as daily habits.
