Emma! Love what you said about channeling inspiration, I really resonate with that. And the balance of giving and receiving in teaching is a beautiful way of looking at this profession. Thanks for your response!
Hi! My name is Amanda and I am from the United States. I work in the medical field (in behavioral health) in the states and got burnt out, so I decided to attend to my own mental by taking a year off from the field of medicine to teach English abroad. I have always wanted to travel to Thailand, so having the opportunity to visit and teach there is a dream come true. Language and culture can be major barriers, but I have been learning the Thai language and about Thai culture for the last year, and hope to learn a whole lot more while there. I hope to have some amazing adventures, make some amazing friends, and enjoy the experience of Thai culture.

Hello,
My name is Öznur Bedi, and I am from Istanbul, Turkey. I graduated from the Department of English Language and Literature, and I have been pursuing my passion for teaching for the past ten years. Throughout this time, I have had the opportunity to work in various educational settings, including high schools and university preparatory programs.I have decided to embark on a new chapter of my journey — teaching in Thailand. This adventure represents not only a professional step but also a heartfelt desire to immerse myself in the rich and diverse Asian culture, which I have long admired but never experienced firsthand.I am well aware of adapting to a new language and culture may bring its challenges; however, I truly believe these experiences will broaden my perspective, enrich my teaching, and help me connect more deeply with the local community.
Hello,
My name is Gergő Nánai, I’m 29 and from Budapest, Hungary. I have just quit my job after 6 years – where I worked as a Korean interpreter / engineer – to keep pursuing my original dream: teaching foreign languages while living in an Asian country. I fell in love with Thailand during after have visited it 3 times as a tourist in the last 3 years, so I decided to take part in this programme.
My biggest concern I would say is adapting myself to an occupation that is way different from the one I had been doing before and having all that set in a foreign country that will come with lots of challenges. However with a positive mindset, willpower and enthusiasm as well as lots of practice and guidance from my peers, colleagues and locals I’m confident enough to say I will be able to overcome those challenges.
I basically just hope to have a great time while meeting new people, making new local and international friends, travelling around the country and of course gaining as much experience in teaching English as I possible as a new memeber of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity programme!
Hello, my name is Grace, and I am preparing for an exciting journey to Thailand. My academic foundation is dual, encompassing International Trade and Business and Nursing, a combination that has fostered in me a keen interest in global markets and community well-being. I’m not a stranger to navigating new environments; I’ve previously gained valuable experience living and working abroad as an Au Pair in the USA for two years. This built my independence and adaptability, skills I know will be crucial in Thailand. On a personal note, I am passionate about food, particularly exploring vibrant street food culture—and while I’m not a natural cook, I am always ready to try new things, a mindset I plan to bring to my entire Thai experience.
My decision to move is driven by two of Thailand’s most vibrant elements: its world-renowned cuisine and its rich calendar of cultural festivals. I view the country as the ultimate destination to satisfy my culinary curiosity and fully immerse myself in its celebrations. This is a chance to apply the adaptability I gained in the USA to a new and dynamic Southeast Asian setting, allowing me to embrace Thai culture through celebration and food.
I am fully aware that the primary challenge I will face is the language barrier. While my excitement is high, communicating beyond simple transactions will be essential to truly connect with the local culture. To overcome this, I plan to be proactive and committed: I will immediately enroll in practical, conversational Thai lessons, focusing on vocabulary essential for daily life, food ordering, and polite etiquette. I view the language barrier not as a deterrent, but as an opportunity for genuine engagement.
Ultimately, my greatest hope for this experience is deep cultural immersion. My key cultural goal is to learn and consistently apply the principles of Thai respect and sanuk (the philosophy of finding joy and lightness in life), ensuring my daily interactions, from the markets to temples, are always polite and culturally appropriate. Professionally, I hope to use my nursing background to gain an invaluable perspective on community health and wellness within a Southeast Asian context. I hope to leave Thailand with a new perspective, lifelong friendships, and a genuine understanding of this incredible culture.
My name is Cheyenne, and I come from Toronto, Canada. I am an aesthetician and former salon owner who has a passion in beauty as well as education. My love for teaching lead me into training and certifying in beauty services. I travel plenty and have a passion for learning about people and cultures around the world. But, If you were to ask me what my favourite activity is, I’d say spending time on FaceTime and gaming with my long-distance nephew.
I’m traveling to Thailand to experience life outside of my own country, explore a new culture, and create meaningful memories while doing something fulfilling like teaching English. Through this experience, I hope to grow both personally and professionally by developing a deeper understanding of global perspectives, improving my teaching skills, and building connections with my students and the community.
I expect there will be challenges, such as adapting to a new environment, language barriers, and cultural differences, but I plan to overcome them with an open mind, patience, and a willingness to learn and adapt every step of the way.
Hi Becca,
I admire how brave and adventurous you were at such a young age. I can relate to you when it comes to your desire to give back. I am so excited for my journey to Thailand and hearing that you lived there for 10 years is so warming and calms any nerves or fears I have.
Thank you for sharing!
Hi Amanda.
I also work for a little while in the health department in the states, I can understand how taking a break like this will improve your career. Thanks for sharing your story!
I’m currently 31 years old, born and raised in Chicago, IL. After I completed high school, I joined the United States Marine Corps from 2014 to 2019. I was honorably discharged as a Sergeant. After leaving I moved to Springfield, MO and went to community college and obtained an associate’s degree in criminal justice. After that I went to Missouri State University and received a bachelor’s degree in modern language mainly focusing on studying Japanese with a minor in Spanish. I enjoy traveling, eating all types of food, playing videogames and people watching. I decided to travel to Thailand because it was one of the first places I traveled to overseas and have fond memories of it also it gives me the chance to learn more about the culture and the people with a more personal experience being able to go to places I would have thought of visiting. The challenges I’d expect is that there would be a language barrier but more than likely I’ll use translation apps to help break that barrier and cultural differences I won’t fully know well but I’ll overcome that by preparing beforehand to know what to do and not do. What I hope to get out of this experience is to gain more teaching experience and to also be a mentor to a student.
Hi everyone! My name is Nikolina, feel free to call me Nina. I am 23 and I am from Novi Sad, Serbia. I left home to finish high school in Georgia, USA, when I was 17, which made me fall in love with experiencing new cultures and living abroad, which is why I moved to Thessaloniki, Greece, to complete my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. I love to volunteer and travel, and I truly believe in the power of education. I have been fortunate to visit more than 40 countries all over the globe, and I see each trip as a gift — an opportunity to immerse myself in a new culture and perspective.
I find moving to another country and living there exciting and exhilarating since I am able to experience the country and the people more profoundly and on a deeper level than when I am just visiting. Moving to Thailand with its rich culture, warmth, and kindness means a lot to me; stepping out of my comfort zone, learning something new and being able to teach someone something new and making an impact on someone, making them fall in love with studying and learning like I did with the help of my teachers is something it sounds like a dream to me, it is something that strongly resonates with me.
I have no doubt there will be some challenges, but I am utterly sure I will be able to overcome them with the great group of friends I will meet and the support from our team. The challenges, such as language barrier and communication, I plan to overcome with an open mind and patience.
By the end of this adventure, I hope to be more confident, to have grown, and to further develop skills like teaching, communication, and adaptability. I am excited to make new memories and meet new people.
Thank you for reading this
Can’t wait to meet you all in person!
Hi Everyone! My name is Karel, and I am from Austin, Texas in the States. I studied at Boston University for undergrad and, most recently, graduated with a Master’s in Public Relations and Advertising from the University of Southern California. I am excited for what this upcoming year has in store for me. From a young age, I have always had a strong desire to see the world. I believe travel is the best form of education, whether it is experiencing different cultures, trying new food, or learning about the history of a place. Before I “settle down” (post-grad and pre-launching my professional career), I knew I wanted to see more of the world and really immerse myself in a different culture from my own. What better time and way than teaching English in Thailand?
I expect to experience challenges with cultural differences and language exchange, from purchasing food at the market to teaching in the classroom. I plan to build and lean on my community of fellow English teachers and teachers at my school. I believe that through building strong relationships and sharing my experience with others, I will overcome these challenges or at least be able to bond over my struggles.
I hope to make an impact within the classroom and build authentic relationships with my students and fellow teachers. Our world is becoming increasingly globalized, so providing the tools for young individuals to learn English has the ability to change the trajectory of their future. I am excited to play a small role in positively shaping students’ lives. Lastly, I am looking forward to understanding Thai culture on a deeper level and seeing what the country has to offer from the people, food, and geography!
Hi Nikolina! It’s nice to meet you! So wonderful to read your intro; I resonate on many levels from valuing travel to building impactful relationships while in Thailand. I can’t wait to actually put a face to your name and meet you in person. Let the countdown begin 🙂
Hi! My name is Trecia and I have been living in Jacksonville, Florida for 15years since 2010. I moved down to Jacksonville, FL from Danbury, Ct after being recruited from one relocation company by another relocation company for my government background as a relocation accounting analyst. I decided to participate in this program after living in Sweden for a year back in 2022-2023 after not being able to travel to South Korea back in 2020 due to Covid-19. I chose Thailand as my destination just by sitting at my home office one day and decided I wanted to go and cook rice. I have no idea why that Idea popped into my head but that was the ultimate goal. I then started googling how to go about making it happen and remembered I had done my TEFL course during the Covid shut-down and X-Plore Asia was one of the companies that came up in making my travels happen.
I think the major challenge that I, like many others will face is the language barrier and being able to communicate effectively without difficulties & minimal misunderstandings. My plan to try to overcome this challenge amongst others is to take my time and use the resources that are available to me at the time. I have downloaded several translator apps and am really thinking about translating headphones to try and guide me with pronunciation so that I don’t use words that have double-meanings.
I hope to get immersed in Thailand’s culture & history while making life-long friends and memories. Just like living in Sweden it was an unbelievable experience. I can only imagine what Thailand has in-store for me and I look forward to taking full advantage of this journey.
